A road into the mountains

Leave the bustle of Guwahati behind as the journey unfolds towards the tranquil hills of western Arunachal Pradesh. En route, pause at Buddha Heritage Park before continuing to Shergaon, a picturesque mountain village cradled by forests and rolling hills. After checking in, spend the evening discovering the natural beauty of Choskoron Waterfall and enjoying a peaceful riverside walk. As the mountains settle into the quiet of dusk, return for dinner and a restful night.

Day 2 | Shergaon – Morshing – Rupa

Orchards, heritage and sacred spaces

Begin the morning among Shergaon’s apple orchards, where the changing seasons shape the landscape and the rhythms of village life. Visit a Rainbow Trout Farm for a glimpse into the region’s rural livelihoods, before proceeding to Morshing. Here, explore the spiritual and cultural heritage of the Monpa community through visits to Lhagyala Gonpa, the Lama Tenpai Dronmey Museum, Chhe-Zukpu Khar Museum and the Mane Ringbu Stupa. Each offers a different window into the traditions, beliefs and stories that have endured across generations. Later, continue to Rupa, where the evening invites you to slow down and savour the mountain atmosphere.

Mountain monasteries and local encounters

Discover the serene setting of Chilipam Monastery, where Buddhist architecture rests beautifully within the surrounding mountain landscape. Continue to Chilipam Waterfall, a refreshing retreat amid nature. Later, experience a more everyday side of the region at Tenga Haat, where local life gathers around its market stalls. Pause at the Buddha statue before exploring Rupa Market, taking in the colours, conversations and simple pleasures of a Himalayan town. Return with the rest of the day at leisure.
