Day by day
Itinerary
Sacred traditions, local heritage & a river sunset
Arrive in Guwahati, Assam's vibrant gateway city, where ancient faith and the mighty Brahmaputra have shaped life for centuries. Begin with a visit to Kamakhya Temple, perched on Nilachal Hill, for a moment of spiritual reflection at one of India's most revered pilgrimage sites.
Continue to Umananda Temple, nestled on Peacock Island amid the waters of the Brahmaputra. Later, explore the region's cultural stories at the Guwahati Museum or Mahabahu Brahmaputra Heritage Museum.
As evening approaches, step aboard a river cruise or dinner cruise. Watch the changing colours of the sky reflect upon the water as Guwahati slowly lights up along the riverbanks — a beautiful introduction to the many worlds of Assam.
Day 2 | Guwahati to Kaziranga — A Taste of the Real AssamIndigenous flavours, village crafts & countryside hospitality
Leave Guwahati behind and travel towards Kaziranga, where the landscape gradually opens into fields, villages and the green expanses of the Brahmaputra valley.
En route, pause at Choran Ahem for an ethnic Karbi lunch, discovering regional flavours that tell their own stories of land, tradition and community. Continue to the Treasured Wheels Antique Museum for a glimpse into the objects and artefacts that preserve memories of another time.
Later, explore Kaziranga Haat or a Weaver's Village, where textiles, handcrafted creations and local livelihoods offer a more intimate perspective on Assamese culture.
Visit the Kaziranga Orchid Park to view the biggest collections of orchids found in this region.
Arrive at your homestay and settle into the warmth of a rural evening, with the sounds of the countryside replacing the bustle of the city.
Day 3 | Kaziranga — A Day in the WildWildlife encounters, bird calls & forest trails
Begin early, when the grasslands are still touched by the morning mist and the forest is gradually stirring to life. Enjoy the planned elephant safari, subject to seasonal operation and availability, for a different perspective on Kaziranga's extraordinary landscape.
Later, join a guided birding and nature walk to discover the smaller wonders of this ecosystem — the calls of woodland birds, the textures of the grasslands and the delicate balance between forest, wetland and open country.
In the afternoon, venture into the national park on a jeep safari. Keep watch for the great one-horned rhinoceros, wild elephants, deer and the remarkable birdlife that makes Kaziranga so special.
Explore the market at Kohora for souvenirs to take home with.
Return to your accommodation for a relaxed evening, with the day's encounters fresh in your memory.
Day 4 | Karbi Country — Beyond the Familiar TrailsOff-road adventure, village life & traditional flavours
Today, step beyond the usual wildlife itinerary and discover a more personal side of the Kaziranga region. Set out on an off-road excursion through the surrounding countryside, where the landscape unfolds in forested slopes, village paths and quiet stretches of river.
Walk through a Karbi village and gain a glimpse into the everyday rhythms of community life, shaped by local knowledge, food traditions and a close relationship with the land. Continue on a guided river trek, where the journey is as much about the changing scenery and sounds of nature as the trail itself.
Along the way, enjoy traditional local food and wine and the opportunity to appreciate the region through its people and their stories. Later, visit a tea lounge for a leisurely introduction to Assam's celebrated tea culture. Return for a restful evening, carrying home impressions that no conventional sightseeing tour could quite replicate.
Day 5 | Kaziranga to Guwahati — A Farewell to AssamTea gardens & memories to take home
Begin your final morning with a leisurely walk through a tea garden, where neat rows of emerald bushes stretch across the landscape and the early light brings a gentle freshness to the day. Take a moment to appreciate the place tea holds in Assam's identity — its landscape, livelihoods and everyday rituals.
After the walk, begin the return journey to Guwahati for your onward departure, carrying memories of wildlife encounters, village conversations, traditional flavours and the quieter moments that made this journey special.
The trail may end here, but Assam's stories have a way of staying with you.
Native Trails RecommendsMake room for the unscripted moments: a conversation with a local artisan, a traditional meal shared at an unhurried pace, or the simple pleasure of walking through a tea garden in the morning light. These are often the experiences that bring a destination closest to the heart.
Travel notes: Safari and elephant safari operations depend on park regulations, season and availability. Museum, market and tea lounge visits are subject to opening hours.
